Production

So you've decided you want a commercial but where do you start?

Firstly, you need to create a script which points directly to the message you want your audience to hear, but before you do that you have to decide how long you want your video to run for.  Generally a 30 second video is enough to gain viewers attention without boring them.  A 30 second script may seem too fast but consider the adverts on TV and how long they generally run before they move onto the next advertisement.  Thirty seconds is about right for a quick introduction to your website.

Secondly, choose a voice over artist to read your script, unless you feel you want to appear in front of the camera and feel confident to read your script yourself.  Global Image represent three voice over artists.  You  can hear samples of their work below.

JOHN SWEETMAN is known for the saying "This is 3 News" and needs no introduction, his voice says it all. Listen to John's Voice Reel below.

STEPHEN BRUNTON is a talented young male voice artist, with experience voicing television, radio and cinema brand campaigns. Stephen has voiced many character's for international animated and live action children's series. Stephen's voice is upbeat, fresh and mid range and is character and accent capable. Listen to Stephen's Voice Reel below.

MILLEN BAIRD has a natural flair for character voices, a forte being the 'good-on-ya-mate-kiwi-bloke'. He has voiced many TV and Radio commercials from Vodafone and Kelloggs, through to Rebel Sports and FAI Finance. Here is a list of some of the clients Millen has worked with at his voice agency, Word of Mouth: Benchmark, Vodafone, Kellogs, Rebel Sport, Telecom, Westpac, The Living Channel, Microsoft, Power Rangers (US TV Show), Sovereign, Waikato Racing Club. Listen to Millen's Voice Reel below.

Thirdly, you need to consider whether your video will have background music.  A lot of the customers remember the products by remembering the TV commercial music jingles. As a result, from the text of the TV commercial music jingles (the lyrics) to the music composition, to the voice overs, everything is extremely important. Music is important because it can describe people, places, movies, or animals that words can't. It sets the mood and creates an emotional response and gives familiarity to your creative expression.

chriscozens1Global Image works closely with Chris Cozens to help set the mood for web videos, soundtracks and documentary music needed for particular projects. With a credit list that includes the five most recent James Bond movies, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and TV favorites including Minder, Van der Valk, and Band of Brothers, if you have ever watched TV, seen a movie, or listened to a CD, there is a good chance you have heard the work of Chris Cozens.
